All of us here at Blitzen Samoyeds love to spend a portion of the winter on the trails.  We go out dog sledding an average of twice  a week.  We do most of our work with our friends Karen and Larry and there two Sammies Timber and Thunder.  Then we meet up with Gordon and his 14 Siberians.  We give rides to tourists from all over including Japan and the United States.  Its very hard work doing this type of start - stop sledding.  A single ride consists of about 2 miles of very scenic track.  Once the trip is complete we take more riders around the track.  On each trip we take 2 passengers and a musher. The average weight we pull is 600 pounds.  Each dog team  is made up of 7 or 8 dogs.  This is very good exercise for us and the dogs.  Over the past few years we have taken close to 1000 people for a dog sled ride.  Kodiak and Yukon have been doing this since November 2000 and Tacha started November 2002.  Have a look below for more dog sledding photographs.
Our racing bio is quite brief.  We entered the Anzac Winterfest 2 Dog race a few years ago and had a great time.  We didn't win the race and we didn't finish last so it was a success.  It was a fun weekend but discovered quite quickly that the Alaskans are way to much competition for us.  Our samoyeds working dogs not racing dogs and are quite proud of that.  I must say that the sammies got the most cheers by a landslide.
